The Olde Bell, nestled in the Berkshire village of Hurley yet only an hour from central London, is the first in a family of modern day coaching inns recently renovated by the designer Ilse Crawford (other works include Babington House). With parts of the inn dating back to 1135 there is heritage creeping out of every old ships beam and inglenook. The main Inn houses the communal activities of eating, drinking, lodging, while the auxiliary buildings house private gatherings, from family lunches, to weddings and meetings. The seasonally inspired, locally sourced food is overseen by the celebrated Rosie Sykes (author of The Kitchen Revolution) and the Innkeeper is Neil Irvine, previously at St. John Bread and Wine, East London. For the warmer months, enjoy local ales and eats from the summer kitchen in the huge meadow garden or in the winter make yourself at home by the open fires.
